Je Suis Lesbienne & Other Excerpts from the Best French Phrase Book EVER
I gave myself the recent goal of learning five new words a day in any of four languages I speak somewhat/learned formally: English, French, Spanish, Cantonese. For the French I’m using random texts I have, including Rick Steve’s French Phrase Book (2nd ed.). This book, by far, is the best language book I have ever owned and I did not know it until today. Such gems found in inside its pages are:
J’ai du retard dans me règles (I’ve missed a period)
J’ai le constipation (I have constipation)
Vous êtes dégoutant (You’re disgusting)
J’ai une maladie contagieuse (I have a contagious disease)
Je suis lesbienne (I’m a lesbian)The latter three are in a section entitled Help!: Help for Women and its applications are endless in France. Seriously. Even better: it actually has a section on profanity. This is not something you find in an ordinary phrase book. Très superb!
Thanks! They certainly don’t teach you those in French class and they are pretty damn critical phrases for any self-respecting female francophile to know.
